VARIETY
Produced at The Hippodrome, London.
Reviewed in Lloyds Weekly News (London), 22nd, October, 1911.

Miss Nancy Price has made her variety debut at the Hippodrome in an amusing Cockney duologue by Mr. Pett Ridge, entitled "Some Showers". The author, an expert in Cockneyology, has in this, as in all his delightful stories and convariations, most cleverly caught the real spirit of the humbler classes, and in his little tiff between two lovers - Daisy, an East End shop girl, and George, an East End clerk - there is not a trace of exaggeration or of that rough and raw method of Cockney characterisation which relies for its effect upon grotesque and artificial mimicry. And Mr. Pett Ridge is lucky in having his little sketch played by two such clever people as Miss Nancy Price and Mr. Edmund Gwenn, artists who have themselves made a special study of the class to which the characters of "Some Showers" belong. Their demeanour, their dress, their voices, and their accent are alike most faithful to reality, and they have the knack of gaining their points without resorting to over-emphasised low comedy.
