August 1911 - Badly injured in an automobile accident that killed her first husband while leaving the Brooklands Race Track.
1923 - Stood as Conservative candidate for Berwick-on-Tweed and won the seat in a by-election after her husband had been unseated due to campaign irregularities perpetrated by his election agent. Mabel held the seat until 1929 when she voluntarily stood-down.
