Topsy Sinden (1876-1950)
"Don Juan"
Produced at the Gaiety Theatre, March, 1894.

This popular Gaiety burlesque, though it has reached its hundredth representation, continues to draw large audiences and give complete satisifaction to pit and stalls and gallery alike, Mr. Arthur Roberts is the life and soul of the comic interest; his songs, notably "The Noisy Don" and "Strolling on the Sands" are nightly greeted with delight; and his efforts are ably supported by Messrs Robert Pateman, Willie Warde, George Mudie and Edmund Payne. The latter gentleman's duet and dance with Miss Katie Seymour goes better than ever, and the ladies who complete the caste each and all demand a special word of praise. Missy Cissy Loftus continues to give her imitations of popular actors and actresses in her own delightful manner, Miss Millie Hylton sings the tuneful "Linger Longer Loo," and Miss Topsy Sinden, whose portrait we give as "The Vision of the Gaiety," charms the masculine heart with her graceful pas seul in the third act. Those who have not seen Don Juan should certainly not miss an opportunity to do so. It is almost frankly a variety entertainment, a judicious mixture of the music-hall and the theatre. And if the old-fashioned theatre-goer resents the intrusion of the rival show, the modern person who asks only for amusement is well content, and therein are the managers justified.
